You can find the area of the not circle parts by taking the square"s area and subtracting that of the circle.

The square has sides of 12in and the area of a square is side x side. Thus this area is 12^2 which is 144 sq. in.

You are watching: What is the approximate area of the shaded region

The area for the circle is dependent on the radius which would be half the diameter or length of the square. The formula for the area of a circle is πr^2 so 36π is the area of the circle.

Now that the area for both is there, the area of the parts not circle would be 144-36π sq. in. That is the easiest and least complicated way to get the answer I know of.
