Is there a polite way to say butt in Spanish? Like in a medical context but not too technical (like no gluteus maximus, I’m working with a low education population)

In México:

-Pompis sounds too childish

-Pompas almost nobody use that word, mostly used by women talking about their own attributes

-Nachas not rude but toooo informal. It has a jocose tone

-Culo is a very vulgar term and commonly used with sexual connotations. Don't use it in Mx

-Nalgas is correct but it´s vulgar outside technical backgounds

-Glúteos is more polite but technical

-Espalda baja: Yeah, we all know that's not your lower back, but it's a trick to avoid talking about your anatomy

-So, I think trasero is the better option

Trasero means rear but it’s not really medical... From what I understand it’s not vulgar or anything, but it’s definitely not a medical term. Hopefully a native speaker will chime in.

I'm not a native speaker but I would try "las nalgas"

I feel like culo is more vulgar slang and not polite, no? It's like the Spanish version of "ass" isn't it? I wouldn't imagine it being used in a doctor's office

Not in Mexico, it sounds both a little childish and a little inappropriate in formal contexts. "Cola" literally means tail, so you're using a word typically reserved for animal anatomy to describe a person.

This is not unique to "cola", other words used to describe animal body parts are used mockingly or when trying to be mildly derogatory, for example, "cállate el hocico", shut up, using "hocico" (snout) instead of "boca" (mouth). Also, describing a person's "pies" (feet) as "patas" (paws), etc.

I second the use of "trasero", it's a very neutral term with no sexual or childish connotations.

"Culo" would be an equivalent for "ass".
