I tried burning Crash Bandicoot 1 to a CD-R (I downloaded BIN and CUE files, and burned via selecting CUE), the files burned normally but when I booted up via Free McBoot and inserted the disc, it said to Please insert a valid PS1 or PS2 disc. That was using ImgBurn.

Another time, I used Alcohol 120%, I chose PlayStation as the burn method and tried again. This time the screen just fades to black, as if it’s trying to load. However - nothing.

What is the exact procedure for this? Should I burn them to DVDs or regularly to CD-R? What about the ESR patching?

Thanks.

PS2 Phat
Fmcb itself does not bypass disc authentication. You need to pair it with an option like esr loader. Esr loader requires the disc be patched with the esr patch, which requires the disc be a DVD. Ps1 mode cannot use DVDs, so fmcb cannot make a ps2 boot burned ps1 discs at all. You need a modchip, breaker pro disc, or you need to run games off other media via popstation

I've tried all the methods I could think of, and popstarter was the only one I could get to run the games smoothly. It's definitely the best option in my opinion, but the wording is a bit confusing on how to get it to work as it involves naming different files in different folders rather than nice gui, but it's worth the effort. Just keep on it and use popstarter, the guide on YouTube will get you there but may take a little to understand.

Thanks. I’ll try that.

When I saw how complicated it was in terms of file configuration and naming, I was a bit discouraged.

I hope it’s not that complicated. ;)

If you have an original PSX game, use psxlauncher. It's a bit of a pain but gets the job done. http://www.ps2-home.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3368 I've also heard that popstarter works pretty well. You can run games from usb or smb with it. Good luck.

You should run POPStarter by SMB. It's more reliable and doesn't require you to burn any disks. While POPStarter has patchy compatibility, the Crash Bandicoot trilogy have good compatibility for the most part, with Warped having minor sound issues.
