I've beaten KH1 FM once before back when 1.5 came out in 2013. I picked up the remastered version of it for the PS4, and Ursula is still one of the hardest bosses in the game, at least for me. Besides grinding and leveling up are there any tips for beating her or is it just grinding and leveling up to a higher level that'll reduce the difficulty?

Phase one: spam magic on her cauldron. It doesnt matter if it seems like its doing nothing, just do it. At one point it will explode and she'll get stunned, hit her until she wakes up. Proceed until you win. Use ether as necessary.

Phase 2: Use aero and beat her up. That's it. Ignore everything and just keep beating her even if you're getting heat. Try using potions instead of cure to save MP for aero.

For my shortcut setup I have Aero and Cure. Always cast Aero on yourself. The trick is to glide in attack. Aero should protect you for most things except when she sucks in water just keep swimming away as fast as you can and then when she raises the trident above her head swim away.

She announces almost every attack beforehand so just memorize the cues and always have Aero on and you should be fine.

Use Stop against her when she's getting ready to use big attacks. Use Aero (If Donald isn't casting it on you enough or if he's dead). Then try your best to avoid (by swimming faster) her attacks and hack away at her.

Bring plenty of potions and a few ethers incase you're having trouble managing your MP.

My strategy involves turning Sora into a mage and casting Stop, and outfitting Ariel with a physical-based setup and set her AI to spam Spiral Wave, which with high enough strength, can take out half a bar with one attack. I synthesize 2 Golem Chains, so you may not be as strong unless you want to do some extra farming. Hopefully you have enough materials for at least 1 Golem Chain. You should also be able to craft a Power Chain which is almost as good.

I did it the slow way.

As soon as you get to the other side of the stream, I unequipped the Mermaid kick (or w.e it's called) because it gets me killed when I accidentally dash instead or descend/ascend.

At first I hit her as much as possible since the thunderbolts are slower, afterwards I just keep myself behind her big fat head and hit more carefully.

After awhile she'll start using that special thunder skill, you'll get some hearing cues of when she'll start doing that, this is harder to avoid w/o mermaid kick so take your time with that.

One more thing, when she does her 'sucking' skill, the thunderbolts stop for a few seconds, use that to hit her head from behind. And if you are worried about avoiding that w/o mermaid kick, simply descend/ascend enough not to be affected by it, I suggest ascend to try to get a few hits on her head.
