In the first game, you could only play as Goku. But now, you can play as four other characters too. If you continue playing the game after you complete the story, you can unlock a final character. Each character has their own special attacks that adds a touch of variety to the gameplay.

Character transformation was introduced to the series in this game, so your character can transform to various forms. Enemy characters now have bars displaying their stats above their heads, just like what the player character had.

As it was in the previous game, you complete tasks in one location to open up another location. The faster you level up, the faster you can access other game locations. There are also some locations that are specific to some game characters. So, you will have to switch characters to access these locations. You can travel to locations almost whenever you want as opposed to the first game where you could only access locations by following a strict order set by the story.

The game world now contains capsules that could be used to raise energy levels and boost other stats. The graphics and the audio have also improved. The game animations, environments, characters and story now feel more dynamic and vibrant. As a Dragon Ball Z fan, you feel the Dragon Ball Z vibes more from this game as opposed to the first game.
